The human body is largely composed of water, with its percentage content varying with age and being dependent on many factors. The body of a newborn is made up of up to 75% water, the largest amount of water being lost in the first year of life. It is assumed that water makes up an average of 50-70% of an adult's body weight, with the amount decreasing as he ages. In a man after 60 years of age it will be 54%, and in a woman - 46%. Water content also depends on body composition, more precisely on body fat mass and fat tissue. Water makes up less than 30% of fat tissue and 70-80% of fat-free mass. The more muscle tissue a person possesses, the more water is found in their tissues (I. Idasiak-Piechocka 2011). Water is essential for the proper functioning of the body. A person can survive without food for about a month, but without water - only a few days (B. Łubkowska 2016). Water forms the milieu for metabolic changes, participates in the transport of substances, and affects proper temperature regulation.
