Plants with seeds are a key component of a well-balanced and varied diet. They are the richest source of protein among all plant crops. In addition, they are an excellent source of dietary fiber, which supports the proper functioning of the digestive tract and helps in lowering cholesterol and blood glucose levels. Plants with seeds contain little fat (although there are exceptions), but they are characterized by a favorable breakdown of fatty acids. 70% of them are unsaturated fatty acids that support the body's immune system, improve brain function, and aid in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. The most recognizable plants with seeds are chickpeas, lentils, beans, peas, soy, and broad beans. Our focus is on the first.
Lineage of the plant known as carpenter or Italian pea
The plant known as carpenter or Italian pea originates from the Middle East, where it was cultivated before our era. Currently, it is grown and processed in southern and eastern Asia, southern Europe, Australia, and northern and western Africa. It is an annual plant that does not occur in the wild. It has a growth of 50-100 cm and small leaves located on a stiff bark. The fruit of the carpenter is a pod containing seeds. Until recently, the carpenter was not widespread in Poland, but this is changing mainly due to the growing popularity of Hindu, Arabic, and Turkish cuisine. Interestingly, Egyptians consider the carpenter to be an aphrodisiac.
