Fruits and vegetables are a crucial component of the daily diet, being a treasure trove of valuable vitamins, fiber, minerals and antioxidants. Incorporating them into the diet reduces the risk of diseases of civilization, including heart disease and cancer. According to the recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH), one should consume a minimum of 400 g of fruits and vegetables every day. To take advantage of their benefits and taste, it is important to know which products to choose when shopping.
Where to make purchases of fruit and vegetables
One of the solutions is to start your own garden, but not everyone can afford it. We don't always have the time and place. Whether we buy at the market or in the grocery store, it's always important to look at the seasonality of vegetables and fruits. For consumers, the most important characteristics when choosing vegetables or fruits are their quality and appearance. Many people prefer to shop at bazaars or fairs, because the origin of the product has also become important, the conditions under which it was grown, and the time it spent before it went on sale. We prefer to choose local, fresh and regional products from Polish producers rather than those that are transported from afar. Of course, we can also buy vegetables and fruits in supermarkets. Even then, it's important to look at the seasonality and pay attention to the country of origin of the products, if we want to support local producers.
