Detoxifying diets (also known as cleansing diets or detoxification diets) are very popular among both sexes. They are attributed to their effect on the elimination of toxins accumulated in the body and weight loss.
Is it truly a detoxification process – how can it be described?
Detoxification, also known as detox, is a concept that aims to eliminate toxins from the body through various types of dietary interventions. In colorful publications and on the Internet, it is easy to find examples of many diets that have an impact on detoxification of the body, as well as specific products or supplements that support this process. However, the problem is that toxins are not always precisely defined. In medicine, substances are typically considered to be toxic when they pose a threat to life or health in excessive amounts. When it comes to detoxification through diet, the proponents of this concept often express their views on cleansing in a vague manner, referring to the contamination of our bodies by toxins. They point to a variety of general symptoms, such as fatigue, hair loss, sleep disorders, concentration problems, and many others. These symptoms can easily be attributed to many different diseases, they are universal, and can result from such minor errors as inadequate hydration. In this situation, one may wonder how much truth there is in this concept?
