Every athlete - both professionals and amateurs - can ultimately experience some type of injury. There are numerous reasons for their occurrence, and thus numerous types of these dysfunctions within the movement organ domain. In this article, I have decided to present the most frequently occurring types of injuries that one can encounter in sports, as well as methods for avoiding or curing them.
Strain injuries: Mechanisms, causative factors, and clinical manifestations of soft tissue overstretching
Strain injuries represent one of the most prevalent categories of musculoskeletal trauma, affecting not only competitive athletes but also individuals engaged in manual labor or sudden physical exertion without prior conditioning. The primary etiology involves exceeding the physiological tolerance of muscles, tendons, or ligaments that have not undergone gradual adaptive strengthening. Additional common triggers include abrupt, uncontrolled movements—such as those occurring during falls, jerks, or rapid directional shifts. The underlying pathomechanism involves the cumulative formation of microscopic fiber tears, ultimately compromising the structural continuity of the affected tissue. Clinical hallmarks include acute, localized stabbing pain, significant restriction of mobility, and—when vascular structures are compromised—subcutaneous or intra-articular ecchymosis, which may further exacerbate swelling and functional impairment.
