Are fish consumption preferred by Poles?
In Poland, the consumption of fish and seafood is not high, they are typically prepared only occasionally, mainly during holidays such as Christmas or Lent. Numerous studies confirm this. In 2015, the fish and seafood consumption was compared in the countries of the European Union. Poland ranked 21st with a consumption of 13.6 kg per person. The leader was Portugal with a consumption of 55.9 kg per person (O. Januszko, J. Kałuża 2019). In 2020, another summary was published showing that in 2019 the average Pole consumed 13.1 kg of fish. The data also indicate that sea fish are chosen more often than freshwater fish. In Poland, herring, cod, lodde and carp are the most popular (K. Hryszko 2020).
