The Mediterranean diet
The term Mediterranean diet was introduced into the medical literature by Dr. Ancel Keys, an American epidemiologist on the subject of nutrition. However, the term was coined by him to describe the nutritional habits of some populations in the Mediterranean basin, which he first observed in the 1950s. In the 1920s, the Mediterranean diet is associated with very rare incidence of coronary heart disease. The Mediterranean diet, though not strictly a diet of fat, but a diet with a nutritive value for active, health-dependent people.
