Digestive disorders are becoming a more frequent issue worldwide. A likely cause for this situation is the high consumption of processed foods in the diet, large amounts of stress, exposure to various types of bacteria and viruses, or smoking tobacco. One such condition is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which often hinders normal functioning. To address the problem of this disease, various solutions are sought, primarily related to nutrition. The diet that appears to be beneficial in this case is the special carbohydrate diet (SCD), which is based on the elimination of complex carbohydrates from the diet.
Chronic inflammatory bowel disorders
The primary symptoms include frequent diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stool, weight loss, and chronic fatigue. During the disease course, digestive and absorptive dysfunctions occur, leading to nutrient deficiencies and systemic complications. Both conditions exhibit alternating phases of exacerbation and remission. While a cure is not possible, symptom management can be achieved through targeted medications and dietary adjustments (S. S. Seyedian, F. Nokhostin, M. D. Malamir 2019). Without intervention, surgical resection or stoma creation may become necessary, significantly enhancing patient quality of life (A. L. Komorowski 2017).
