Many individuals equate American cuisine with food that has a negative impact on health. The fast food products from street establishments are certainly not beneficial for health, but self-preparing American dishes can significantly increase their nutritional value.
The problem of obesity in the United States
American cuisine is generally associated with heavy meals that are difficult to digest and contain a high calorie content. It is not surprising that the problem of obesity in the United States is serious - in 2011-2012, more than one-third of American adults had serious problems with it. Recent studies, however, show that this number has risen to 42.4% in 2017-2018 (M. H. Craig et al. 2020). Processed foods contain significant amounts of sugar, fat, and salt, leading to a significant increase in body weight and an increased risk of many dangerous diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Additionally, people with significant overweight may have difficulty moving - a high body weight significantly burdens the muscles and joints, making normal functioning difficult.
