The secret to effective weight loss: why healthy fats are the key to success!
FACT. Fats play a pivotal role in balanced nutrition and weight management. They serve as the body’s primary energy reserve, facilitate the release of fatty acids, enhance vitality, and protect cellular structures. Among the most beneficial are omega-3 fatty acids, which exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, support cognitive function, and contribute to overall well-being. Strategically increasing fat intake while limiting carbohydrates (to approximately 50–70 grams per day) promotes the induction of ketosis—a metabolic state where the body derives energy predominantly from fat stores rather than glucose. This shift significantly accelerates fat loss. Additionally, fats aid digestion, regulate intestinal motility, improve the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), and provide prolonged satiety, thereby reducing the likelihood of overeating. It is crucial to note, however, that these benefits apply exclusively to high-quality fats—both monounsaturated and saturated—found in whole-food sources such as extra virgin olive oil, raw nuts, natural nut butters, MCT oil, unrefined rapeseed oil, and full-fat dairy products like aged cheeses. Trans fats, on the other hand, must be strictly avoided, as they are predominantly found in ultra-processed foods such as chips (containing up to 50 grams of fat per 100 grams!), industrial baked goods, fast food, cookies, and candy bars. The recommended daily intake of trans fats should not exceed 1–1.5 grams, while saturated fats should be limited to around 40 grams. Restricting fats in the diet can lead to persistent hunger, weakened immunity, chronic fatigue, and even malnutrition. The optimal daily dose is approximately 3–4 tablespoons of high-quality plant-based oil, preferably consumed raw, such as in salad dressings or as a finishing touch to cooked meals.
