Against the backdrop of escalating antibiotic use and heightened exposure to viral and bacterial pathogens, contemporary medicine increasingly recognizes probiotics as a vital component of both preventive and therapeutic strategies. Key microbial strains—such as *Lactobacillus plantarum*, *Bifidobacterium lactis*, and *Bacillus coagulans*—have demonstrated their efficacy in rigorous clinical trials. To maximize their therapeutic benefits, however, it is essential to comprehend their mechanisms of action on gut microbiota composition, the criteria for selecting appropriate formulations, and the guidelines for administration—encompassing optimal dosage regimens and the duration of supplementation.
Probiotics
According to the FAO/WHO definition probiotics are living microorganisms present in food that have a beneficial effect on the body by improving the balance of gut microflora. The concept of probiotics itself (from the Greek pro bios meaning health) originated in the early 20th century, when Miecznikov pointed to the beneficial effects of fermented milk on human health: the microbes present in it have contributed to restoring the proper function of the gut flora while also preventing the growth of the intestinal flora. This concept was derived from the amino acid prize.[1] Currently, it is also used as a probiotic for the development of the bacterial genus Lactobacillus, which is the most abundant species of bacteria, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, bacteria, amyloidoses, bacteria.
