The same oral structure and function
The mouth is the first part of the digestive system. This is where the food travels, divided into gums, which are broken down by the work of the teeth. The saliva secreted into the mouth contains the intestinal enzymes (the salivary amylase, which starts the digestion of carbohydrates) that begin the tedious process of dividing the complex food components into simple compounds that the body will be able to absorb and use. The mouth also contains substances of antibacterial nature (i.e. the saliva of this blood), which form the first barrier to the function of the muscles from the mouth to the stomach.
