The Christmas period is a time of happiness and joint celebration, during which traditional dishes, aromatic cakes and delicious snacks appear on the tables. Despite being an exceptional time of the year, full of family meetings, it is easy to fall into the trap of overeating.
Excessive food consumption in relation to overall well-being
Excessive consumption of food, particularly during the holiday season, can substantially impact our physical and mental well-being. An overabundance of food causes the stomach to stretch beyond its natural limits, resulting in feelings of heaviness and discomfort. Accompanying symptoms, such as bloating, nausea, and other digestive issues, can arise as a result of overloading the digestive system. The process of digesting large amounts of food requires increased exertion from our body, leading to fatigue and exhaustion. This effect is especially noticeable when heavy, fatty dishes dominate the table, further taxing the digestive system. Excessive eating affects not just our body, but also our psyche. The initial joy derived from eating can quickly give way to feelings of guilt, particularly among individuals who typically maintain a healthy diet. Such emotions often result in frustration, low mood, and feelings of loss of control. Additionally, consuming large quantities of sugar and fat in a short period disrupts the body's energy balance, promoting mood swings and increasing feelings of irritability. Despite the holidays being a time when food plays a significant role, it is important to remember that moderation allows for enjoyment of their atmosphere without unpleasant consequences. A conscious approach enables avoidance not just of physical discomfort, but also unnecessary guilt. This facilitates experiencing genuine joy during the holiday moments.
