Physical fitness is not solely advanced through hard work. Presently, there is a growing emphasis on evidence-based medicine, and trainers and physical therapists are discarding outmoded methods to pave the way for more effective and modern solutions. A prime example is impotence training, also referred to as inertial training. Does it offer any benefits whatsoever, and if so, who can reap its benefits?
Principles of inertial training
To better understand the principles of inertial training, one can start with a description of muscle work during a typical strength training exercise that uses an external resistance. An example of this could be one of the most popular exercises, such as bending the forearm with weights. In the starting position, the two-headed muscle is completely stretched out, and with the start of the movement (bending), the muscle fibers begin to contract and shorten, which is known as the concentric phase. In this phase, the fibers attempt to overcome the resistance coming from both the weights and the force of gravity. After reaching the final position - the maximum contraction and bending of the forearm - the second part of the exercise follows, which is the slow return to the starting position. In this phase, the fibers switch to the eccentric phase, in which they stretch and lengthen, but the force of the resistance still acts on the muscle. It is particularly important that the forces of resistance (gravity and load) are constant, which in the absence of control can lead to injury.
