Which activities constitute a cardio workout?
A cardio workout is usually comprised of a high-exertion activity performed for a specified duration. The typical minimum requirement is at least 30 minutes of cardio exercise. Cardio activity is a type of activity wherein our heart rate maintains between 60 to 70% of our maximum heart rate, which can best be calculated using the following formula.
The blueprint of former high-performance athlete Sally Edwards
Female: Maximum Heart Rate (HR max) = 210 - 0.5 × age - 0.022 × weight in kilogramsMale: HR max = 210 - 0.5 × age - 0.022 × weight in kilograms + 4 This will allow us to estimate the rate at which we should be exercising cardio. However, it is important to remember that patterns are only patterns, and the main factors that should determine the intensity and duration of our exercises are our well-being and our individual training abilities. Aerobic training is recommended for everyone. It is not just a way to burn fat, but also to increase overall endurance, improve heart health, increase lung capacity, and speed up metabolism. There are many ways to perform cardio, and it is worth taking advantage of this and not limiting ourselves to just one type of exercise. Even a walk can be a cardio workout, depending on our fitness level. If someone likes the water, they can do a cardio workout in the pool. In my opinion, the best way to do cardio training is to use our surroundings. Going for a hike, a brisk walk, or running is more advantageous in many ways than closing ourselves in a gym and doing cardio training on a machine. The bicycle is also a great tool for this type of training. Our imagination is the only thing that can limit us, as no equipment is required for cardio training.
Cardio training develops the respiratory function of the lungs
What is the respiratory function of the lungs? It is the amount of oxygen that the lungs are able to process. This respiratory function of the lungs is most commonly referred to as VO2 max. The respiratory function of the lungs is expressed in milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute. On average, an athlete has a respiratory function of the lungs of around 3.5 liters per minute and 50 ml per kg of body weight per minute. Cardio training is able to enhance the respiratory function of the lungs, and there are several ways to do this. It is important to note that with age, the respiratory function of the lungs may decrease by up to 1% per year (after age 25). However, a benefit is that through training, the respiratory function of the lungs can be increased by up to 20%, allowing us to maintain their respiratory function. Cardio training helps to improve the respiratory function of the lungs, although during the performance of aerobic training, the maximum respiratory function is not reached. A better choice would be interval training, which is performed alternately with rest periods. Interval training is characterized by a high heart rate during short-term training. The best way to increase the respiratory function of the lungs could be performing sprints for 30 seconds, followed by a 60-second rest period. This allows for an increase in oxygen debt and respiratory function of the lungs. Such training should be performed 2-3 times a week in order for the results to be noticeable. When it comes to cardio training, which also contributes to the enhancement of the respiratory function of the lungs, it would be advisable to start training 2-3 times a week for 30 minutes each with an intensity of about 60-65% of the maximum heart rate.
Cardio fortifies the heart
Cardio is not only beneficial for burning fat, but also for the health of our most important heart muscle. Through physical exertion, the heart is forced to pump more blood, which increases its activity. This allows us to reduce the deposition of cholesterol in the arteries, which will certainly help to reduce the risk of diseases such as atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases. Increasing physical activity in our daily lives leads to a decrease in our heart rate every day. This means that our heart does not have to work so hard when performing daily activities. This information is very good for those who are not very active. However, it is important to note that we do not necessarily have to exercise in the gym - any form of physical activity that keeps our heart rate in a range of 60-70% of our maximum heart rate is sufficient. It is also important to mention that cardio is beneficial regardless of age.
Increases physical efficiency
Physical efficiency is a measure of how well the heart, lungs, and muscles collaborate to maintain the body's activity over an extended period. Regularly performing aerobic and anaerobic exercises can enhance physical efficiency, thereby improving the body's performance and resistance to diseases. How can one assess physical efficiency? The most common method is to measure the amount of exhaled air, which indicates the degree to which the muscles utilize oxygen. This test, known as the VO2 max test, typically requires a very intense effort, which is not suitable for everyone. Moreover, such a test is usually conducted in a laboratory setting, often in a clinic or a medical clinic. A simpler test is the Cooper Test or the Step Test. In the former case, one needs to run as fast as possible for 12 minutes and then measure the distance covered. The latter test involves stepping backwards onto a step of about 50 cm height (for women, about 46 cm) in a rhythm of 30 cycles per minute for 5 minutes (for women, 4 minutes). A cycle consists of stepping up with the right foot, adding the left foot, stepping down with the right foot, and adding the left foot. The test involves measuring the pulse immediately after the first, second, and third minute of recovery.
A vehicle must meet the following specifications:
The ability is measured using the performance index of the IST formula, t test duration in sec., C1, C2, C3 pulse rate 30 seconds after exertion in trial 1, 2, 3. It burns fat
Cardio training is a good way to burn fat, but it's important to remember that the primary factor that determines fat loss is the number of calories you take in a day. The energy balance has to be negative for fat to be burned. We can create this energy deficit just by cardio or reducing calorie intake in our diet. The truth is that fat burning is increased by a lower-intensity cardio workout, which is called a fat-burning zone.
Accelerates metabolic processes
Incorporating cardio training into our daily routine can accelerate metabolic processes. This effect can be understood in two ways: firstly, cardio training increases our energy expenditure, which aids in maintaining a healthy metabolism; secondly, however, metabolic processes are not immediately accelerated after one workout. It requires regular exercise and time. Cardio training on an empty stomach can be particularly effective in burning fat tissue and stimulating the entire body to work.
Avoid overcrowding in the gym
Cardio training can be a wonderful alternative for people who only train for strength. It is important to note that not only our appearance, but also our overall fitness is important in developing our body image. This is where cardio training can help, which will improve our endurance and performance, so that no one from the strength trainers will have problems climbing the stairs to the fourth floor. There may also be cases where strength training becomes less attractive. In this case, aerobic training can help, which we can perform in many ways - cycling, jumping, selected exercises, swimming, running in the field, rollerblading and many more. The possibilities are endless, so it's just a matter of finding the right inspiration and choosing the right training that will make us tired. An interesting form of cardio training is also dancing, which fitness enthusiasts love to do on weekends, taking advantage of the opportunity to complete a cardio workout. This combination of pleasure and utility not only develops dance skills, but also improves physical health.
Strengthening of the joints
It is commonly recognized that physical activity can prolong life, yet another significant benefit is the fortification of joints. Through resistance and aerobic exercises, we can augment the density of our bones and improve the suppleness of our joints, which essentially aids in preventing osteoporosis. Joints that are consistently challenged will have to adapt to the exertion they are subjected to, thus becoming more robust. The only group that needs to exercise caution not to overexert themselves, particularly during cardio sessions, are overweight individuals. People carrying a substantial amount of extra weight should abstain from running, as their joints may sustain damage instead of being strengthened. This is an essential consideration!
Improves blood flow
Cardio activity training activates all the cells in our body, enabling the entire body to function at maximum efficiency. This leads to improved blood flow in all tissues, which also results in more effective elimination of excess substances. Through training, the blood flow in the entire skin is enhanced, which leads to better quality. Of course, to give the body the appropriate level of elasticity and attractiveness, it would be worth adding strength training to the aerobic training. Then we can be sure that the entire training is performed in the best possible way. It is also important to remember that improved blood flow also means better nutrition for the entire body.
