Gallstones are a condition where rapid diagnosis, application of appropriate measures, and therapy are vital. It is worth understanding precisely what causes them and what the possible consequences may be.
Cholestasis – significance and consequences
Cholestasis is a condition in which the secretion of bile into the duodenum is inhibited or reduced through various mechanisms. Bile components are also retained in liver cells, and these changes are accompanied by an enlargement of the bile ducts. Bile stasis can be a standalone disease, but also a symptom of a severe liver disorder. It is worth noting that cholestasis can cause jaundice, but cholestasis should not be confused with jaundice – jaundice is only one of the potential symptoms of cholestasis.
