Lack of Basic Knowledge About Supplements
Browsing the web on numerous sports supplementation portals and discussion forums, one often encounters countless unanswered questions. Individual discussions constantly repeat questions such as 'can this be taken during bulking?' or 'will this fat burner help lose belly fat?' Of course, there is nothing wrong with asking questions, and resolving doubts by comparing knowledge with others is worthwhile. However, when the questions touch upon the absolute basics, experienced athletes may feel frustrated. In an era with virtually unlimited access to all kinds of empirical and popular science sources, it is worth educating ourselves in the field that interests us. Knowledge is something no one can take away, and it will surely prove useful in our chosen discipline. Explanations of the key mechanisms of basic supplements often take just a few sentences that capture the essence of a product. If we check information about a movie before going to the cinema, or ask what a dish consists of at a restaurant, why not do the same before purchasing dietary supplements?
Blind faith in advertising passwords
Unlimited reliance on advertising slogans is not just about the supplementary market. Advertising plays a very important role in every industry because, as is commonly known, it is a 'trade hub'". However, this does not explain in any way the uncritical approach to the promotional passwords served by most companies. If you want to avoid an unconscious purchase and the only criterion in the choice of a product, take some distance and look closely at the product.
An erroneous diet and an inadequate exercise regimen
One often sees young fitness enthusiasts in the gym proudly declaring their allegiance and trust in a specific supplement manufacturer. Plastic shakers and clothing bearing the logo of their favorite brand are a common sight in today's fitness clubs. However, when asked about their diet or training plan, they often respond that they don't need them because they use supplements. Gentlemen, it's time to review the evidence. Supplements, regardless of their type, will not work without two fundamental elements: a suitable diet and regular training. A diet is the foundation of the process of shaping and modeling the silhouette. It is responsible for stimulating our metabolism and directing our physiology so that the muscle tissue has ideal conditions for growth. Let us remember that the diet determines the pace of achieving the desired goal. Without applying the caloric surplus, we will not achieve the expected results. It is similar with training plans. Often, people who use intense supplementation do not have a suitable training plan or prepare themselves for a completely different process than they should. The strength built on synthetic compounds is not comparable to the strength achieved through intense and regular physical exertion. Movement is a stimulus that cannot be replaced by synthetic compounds.
Being a role model
In one of the paragraphs, I mentioned that "the one who asks is not mistaken". This statement is as accurate as it can be, but very often misinterpreted. When it comes to supplementary matters, remember that each of us is different. Despite the same structure and physiology, there are a number of many variables that determine the uniqueness and originality of each person. So you can assume that individual substances will cause completely different reactions in other people. However, the title of this paragraph mainly refers to situations where we place great faith in the choices of others. Of course, there is nothing wrong with relying on the opinions of others about a given product.
Undefined targets
This error is likely the most common one when it comes to selecting supplements. I had the opportunity to witness a conversation between a salesperson and a customer who said that they did not know what exactly they wanted to achieve. If we are not sure what we want to achieve exactly, how can a salesperson or a forum user whom we ask for advice know that? Without a clear goal, it is difficult to choose the right supplements. This is the most common cause of vague situations such as "increasing reduction" or "L-carnitine in muscle building".
I can't do anything without supplements
This paragraph is a de facto development of diet and training. This situation is very often seen in middle-aged athletes who already have some idea of gym exercise", but for lack of sufficient knowledge they still make cardinal mistakes. One of them is to start supplementation at an inappropriate time as a result of diet or exercise regimen stagnation. However, supplementation is necessary, but it's worth checking in advance to see if the cause of stall is somewhere else.
Dietary supplements are not effective
This declaration is the primary response of most individuals who unexpectedly do not use dietary supplements. Of course, it is not a matter of faith but of knowledge, and as I mentioned earlier, many individuals are still against it. Dietary supplements work - there are sufficient scientific publications that confirm their effectiveness and application in sports. In response to the arguments of opponents regarding false results, I can say that if you adopt such a stance, it is difficult to believe in any studies on drugs or vegetables and their impact on our health. The absence of effect of dietary supplements can be caused by many factors, including young age, short training period, improper diet, taking an incorrect amount of the supplement, or incompatible products. Very often, one encounters the situation where a particular active ingredient does not work as effectively as it should, therefore, it is worth considering testing a certain sample of the supplement.
Does it make sense to take dietary supplements?
I have been taking dietary supplements for a number of years and can honestly say that I have achieved some results faster than expected due to this. My answer, therefore, is: Yes, it makes sense! However, it is important to remember that dietary supplements should be viewed as a supplement to nutrition and exercise, not a replacement. It is also important to choose the right products and combine them with food and movement. Otherwise, it is difficult to talk about the positive effects of their use. Dietary supplements can bring real benefits, but it is important to remember that they cannot replace a balanced diet and regular exercise.
