Is this a low-glycemic diet at all? What is it?
It is a diet based on low glycemic index products. The glycemy index determines how much blood glucose will rise after eating a portion of a particular carbohydrate-containing product.
Does it affect our body's glycemic index at all?
High GI products raise blood glucose levels rapidly, which then decrease very quickly. Frequent consumption of high GI products results in frequent releases of insulin of the pancreas hormone, which allows glucose to enter cells. Too often stimulating your pancreas to release insulin can eventually lead to tissue resistance to this hormone. As a result, it needs more and more, and increased production is a major strain on your pancreat.
Is this a low-glycemic diet for anyone?
A low-GI diet is mainly for people with diabetes, including those with pregnancy, and insulin resistance. In these conditions, the body cannot cope with the sugar delivered to the body. Benefits of using it are also seen in polycystic ovary syndrome. A low glycemic index is also associated with easier weight loss. To lose weight, you always need an energy deficit and to achieve it, you just have to eat less. It's easier to do this by eating less when there are more protein and magnesium-rich products in the blood, as well as protein and fat loss.
How to lower your IG?
The easiest way to lower the glycemic index is by adding more protein and fat to your food. It can be skyr, Greek yogurt, or just a little oil. The food will be lower when you add vegetables and fiber to it too. In order not to increase the IG of foods, it's best not to prepare them and not to digest them too much. It's to make it harder for glucose to pass from the gut to the blood.
Low IG products
The low glycemic index (below 55) is mainly meat, fish and fats because they are low in carbohydrates. You can also easily eat nuts and legumes. Then there are vegetables that are also low in sugars, so there is a lot of water and fiber. Most vegetables will have a low glychemic index. This group also includes fruits. However, contrary to much information that can be found on the internet, many fruits can be eaten on a low-carbohydrate diet.
It's an example of a menu
The following is an example of what a low-glycemic diet can look like for an entire day: 10 ml of oatmeal, 1 tablespoon of wheat bread, 70 g of raisins, 170 g of yogurt, and therefore an individual diet with a nutritionist. Breakfast Egg with bread and tomatoes Ingredients: 3 tabs of chicken, 1 cup of olive oil, 1 teaspoons of grain, 2 cups of rice, 1 table of rice Bread with yogurt 170 grams of rice (one table), 1 table of rice and 150 g of rice.
