The health of our digestive system is largely dependent on the balance of microorganisms inhabiting the intestines. Researchers emphasize that dysbiosis—a disruption in microbiota composition—can contribute not only to digestive issues but also affect metabolism, potentially exacerbating weight gain tendencies. Discover which specific actions help optimize the bacterial composition of the gastrointestinal tract and promote a healthy body weight!

Probiotic bacteria

Probiotics are living cultures of bacteria that can be supplied to our bodies with fermented foods or in the form of supplements. In light of the growing number of studies that have been conducted on the imbalance of the bacterial flora of the digestive system, probiotics can lead to a deterioration in health and increased exposure to certain disease units.

Probiotics for weight loss

There are two main families of good bacteria in the gut: bacteroidetes and firmicalutes. Body weight seems to be related to maintaining the balance of these two families of bacteria. The fact is that the bacterial flora of obese people is different from that of lean people. This raises the question of whether this difference in bacterial composition can be helpful in fighting the obesity epidemic that has literally flooded Poland in recent years. A study of 210 obese individuals has shown that the use of probiotics (Lactobacillus gasperi) has led to the loss of 8,5% of abdominal body fat over a 12-week period.

What kind of probiotic to choose?

The availability of probiotics is enormous, and we have a wide variety of preparations to choose from. Unfortunately, the quality of the supplements stated on the packaging does not always reflect their proper composition. First of all, let's choose a reliable source from which to buy the product. Avoid online purchases. These types of supplements require special storage conditions, e.g. low temperature. The best choice in this case will be the pharmacist. However, we need to check the validity of the supplement. But check the amount of beneficial bacteria in the preparation.
