In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of gyms and sports clubs. These are the results of many social campaigns that have not only shaped healthy eating habits but also encouraged people to work on their physical health. The trend of having an attractive figure has come to us from Western countries, where the awareness of this need has grown along with the improvement of economic conditions. Fortunately, in Poland, a similar approach is beginning to emerge, which has led to the creation of gyms and small sports clubs in such numbers not only in smaller towns but also in larger urban areas.
Gym in the vicinity of the residence
The first and exceptionally significant aspect of selecting a suitable gym for our benefit should be its location near our place of residence. A sports club that is too far away from our home, even if it is a 30-minute commute, is not an ideal solution as it will be challenging to find sufficient time to travel to the training, perform exercises for at least one and a half hours, and return home. The better choice is to dedicate this additional portion of time to planning effective physical activities. Therefore, we choose a gym located nearest to our place of residence, at a suitable distance for a short walk or even a run, which allows for additional warming up.
Fitness center's operational hours
It is increasingly prevalent to encounter fitness centers that stay open for the entire day. For some, this may seem like an unusual solution, since who would want to conduct strength training in the middle of the night? However, such a situation occurs as people work at various hours. There may not be a necessity for seeking a fitness center that remains open for the whole day, but in the morning hours, even before starting work, many individuals willingly visit the fitness center. A similar scenario applies during the evenings, hence choose a fitness center that provides a wide range of activities and allows for the adjustment of the training schedule and daily tasks to the visit to the fitness center.
Cleanliness and hygiene in training rooms
Not all fitness clubs prioritize cleanliness and neatness as a priority. Typically, these are smaller clubs located in residential areas or small towns. For some individuals, the quality of training equipment and cardio gear is not significant, but for the majority, cleanliness and neatness are extremely important. Many renowned figures from the sports world, such as athletes, boxers, or weightlifters, trained in studios that were very poor or self-constructed at home. However, it is important to note that these were usually highly motivated individuals who focused solely on achieving success, regardless of many of our quality standards or street conditions. For many people, the quality of equipment, the cleanliness of toilets and changing rooms is critical, therefore we subconsciously choose those places that meet our aesthetic expectations and are safer for our health.
Scope of exercise equipment
Another very important selection factor is the availability and quality of the strength equipment that we can find in the fitness center. The greater the variety and quality of these devices, the better the results we can achieve during training. This allows us to focus on training individual muscle groups and avoid situations where lines form for using the same equipment. This is very important because we do not want to waste time waiting. The more equipment, the better the training possibilities, which is especially important in the case of modern fitness clubs, of which there are more and more.
Private personal trainers
In pursuit of effective training, it is advisable to engage the services of a private personal trainer. It is often difficult to assess the quality of work of such individuals prior to the initial trial session. Therefore, we recommend purchasing the first trial session and evaluating how our private personal trainer is performing and whether they meet our requirements, as well as how well we collaborate together. The trainer should inspire us to work and devise an individual training plan that we will implement gradually together. Otherwise, their work and our efforts will not make sense, and the services of a private personal trainer are relatively costly.
Costs associated with membership
At present, frequent use of the gym is no longer one of the most expensive services. Typically, the cost of a monthly membership ranges from 80 to 200 PLN. Everything depends on the type of purchased package, but ordinary use of the gym without restrictions is not costly and can be afforded by anyone who wants to take care of themselves. Large network gyms that also offer, for example, a swimming pool, sauna or jacuzzi, offer memberships at such a beneficial price that they can be profitable even in a longer-term perspective, for example, for a minimum of half a year, with the notice period being about 3 months.
Group training courses
If we encounter difficulties in self-motivating for activity, we can benefit from organized group training courses that ensure the expected outcomes in case of consistent participation in a group. The diversity of offered activities should also be an important criterion for some individuals.
