Probiotics for babies and children: Which strains to select and whether they truly deliver health benefits

Scientific evaluations of probiotic supplementation in pediatric populations fail to provide conclusive evidence, leaving numerous questions unresolved. The administration of live microbial cultures—including strains such as *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, *Bifidobacterium*, and *Saccharomyces* yeasts—may promote gut microbiota equilibrium by fostering the proliferation of beneficial bacteria and reinforcing the protective barrier against harmful pathogens. Nevertheless, emerging research suggests that artificial alterations to the natural bacterial composition—particularly during early developmental stages—could potentially trigger adverse immunological responses, including allergic hypersensitivity reactions.

Probiotics for children

In children, normal gut flora develops in the first two years of life. Providing probiotics during this time may support their immune system, reduce their susceptibility to allergy symptoms and improve the functioning of the baby's digestive tract. Supplementation with L. Acidophilus may have positive effects for diarrhoea, accelerating the return of young children to health.

It's probiotics for babies

In infants with lactose intolerance resulting from too little of the enzyme lactic acid, the risk of developing allergies is reduced by the positive effect of the bacteria on the proper immune response to allergens. In more than 90% of infants with IgE-dependent allergies, the combination of probiotics with an elimination diet has very good effects. In babies with a low lactose tolerance due to too little lactose enzyme (lactose lactose), it is important to give the bacteria a positive effect on their immune response.
