Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): pharmacological mechanisms, adverse reaction profiles, and clinical applications

A transformative advancement in pharmacotherapy was initiated by the isolation and investigation of salicylic acid’s properties, which laid the groundwork for the formulation of contemporary medicinal compounds exhibiting analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects—now categorized as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
The mechanism of action of the NLP
NLPEs are a very diverse group of medicines, both in terms of structure and properties. They have different anti-inflammatory and anti-fever effects. For example, diclofenac acts as an anti-infeversion and analgesic agent, but not as an antiseptic agent, while aspirin shows moderate intensity in each of these aspects. A common feature of the medicines is the mechanism of action. In short, however, the arachidonic acid released from the cell membranes during the transformation involving the so-called clooxygenase (COX) becomes translocated into the prostagland, which has the effect of slowing down the inflammatory process and slowing the pain process.
Side effects of NSAIDs
Every leaflet attached to any pharmaceutical carries an endless list of side effects. Even if the risk is very small, consider all previously reported illnesses caused by taking the product. In fact, you can't be afraid to grow up. So are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The most common side effects are mucous membranes of the stomach, ulcers, sometimes even perforations.
Treatment with NSAIDs
This is evidenced by the fact that approximately 34 million packs of NSAIDs were sold in Poland in 2004 to alleviate the suffering of many rheumatologists. They are primarily used in the treatment of pain. As it turned out, they have excellent effects in combination with the opioids mentioned above, which allows you to reduce the dose and thus eliminate some of the side effects associated with their use (sleepiness, constipation, headaches). In addition, they provide relief to many rheumatic patients.
