This installment constitutes the third and most comprehensive segment of a publication series, offering an in-depth examination of the mechanisms of action, potential clinical benefits, and current scientific evidence surrounding N-acetylcysteine—a compound with well-documented effects on a wide array of metabolic and protective processes within the human body.
N-acetylcysteine
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is an organic compound that is an N-acetyl derivative of cysteine, an endogenous sulfuric amino acid naturally occurring in our body and in food proteins. It is involved in the synthesis of proteins, enzymes, cofactors, it is a structural protein.
NAC properties
In medicine, N-acetylcysteine has a strong antioxidant effect mainly in cases of mucous membrane paracetamol poisoning or after overdose. NAC has the ability to inactivate the toxicity of insulin in mucus polypeptides, NAC reduces its toxicity, improves the functioning of the respiratory tract, and facilitates the removal of excess excretion from the airways. In addition, it can be used as a powerful antioxidant in the treatment of mucosal parasites or after their overdosage. NAC also reduces the effectiveness of insulin-transforming toxicity products, reduces blood glucose levels, and reduces stress levels by reducing the stress levels of blood sugar levels.
NAC is contraindicated
NAC is an effective and frequently used mucolic agent, however, because of its strong secretion dissolving effect it can lead to cramping of the pancreas and exacerbation of asthma symptoms, so it should be introduced gradually. Caution should be exercised in supplementation in those with clotting disorders, excessive bleeding and tendencies to develop tumors, ulcerative disease, respiratory failure and in some disorder. However, due to its strong detoxifying properties, careful consideration should be given to a drastic and sudden increase in the level of glutathione, especially if the levels accumulated in the body.
