Coffee combating liver cancer

According to research conducted by Dr. Oliver Kennedy of the University of Southampton and published in BMJ Open, daily consumption of one cup of coffee may reduce the risk of liver cancer by up to 20%. The study included more than 2.5 million adults. Furthermore, coffee has anticancer properties in people with pre-existing liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, or other disorders caused by infections, including hepatitis C and B. The study results suggest that an increased intake of coffee may further reduce the risk of liver cancer – with five cups of coffee a day, the risk of liver cancer may be reduced by up to 50%! However, this does not mean that excessive coffee consumption is safe – for people with hypertension, it may be harmful.
