The plant on which coconuts grow is widely known in many parts of the world as the „Tree of Life”... It belongs to the palm family, and the largest cultivation areas of nuts covering these trees are located in India, Indonesia, and the Philippines... Coconut cultivation is favored by year-round spring weather - average annual temperature of about 27 degrees Celsius and moderate frequency and intensity of rain... Generally, between 70 and 150 trees are planted per hectare, depending on the topography of the land... Cultivation requires soils of appropriate quality, as this also affects the quality of coconut water.

Coconut fluid

The liquid contained within coconut fruit is a clear, water-like substance and ranks among the food products with the broadest industrial applications globally. It is extracted from five-month-old nuts, and its use as both a nutrient and in religious ceremonies dates back to prehistoric times. Coconut water must not be confused with coconut milk - the former consists of over 94% water, while the latter contains only about 50%, and they also differ in their production processes. In addition to its role in refreshing beverage production, coconut water is employed as a supplement to enhance plant tissue growth.

Coconut water – health benefits

The primary health benefit of coconut water lies in its electrolytic properties. In 100 g of this beverage, there are approximately 250 mg of potassium, 100 mg of sodium, and around 25 mg of calcium and magnesium. In populations with poor dietary habits, it can aid in hypertension management, while in warmer, economically disadvantaged regions, it helps maintain proper hydration in individuals frequently affected by dehydration. Additionally, coconut water assists in detoxification following mild heavy metal poisoning and facilitates the absorption of certain medications into the bloodstream. This effect is attributed to its electrolytic nature. Furthermore, the presence of phytohormones such as auxins, cytokinins, gibberellins, and abscisic acid contributes to its health-promoting effects. Research indicates that some of these compounds slow aging processes in cell cultures and exhibit antitumor and anticoagulant properties under laboratory conditions.

Coconut water – purchasing options and pricing in Poland

Coconut water is now readily accessible in many retail outlets across the country. Consumers can purchase it both in physical stores and online, with the option for home delivery. The cost of this product varies depending on the retailer, brand, and quality standards, ranging from approximately 8.80 PLN to up to 16 PLN per liter.

Is this genuinely coconut water – what is the recommended daily dosage?

Unfortunately, it is not feasible to establish uniform guidelines regarding the daily consumption of coconut water that would be suitable for everyone. One of the key factors to consider when incorporating this beverage into one's diet is the provision of electrolytes to the body. It should be noted that even an excess of typically beneficial substances can lead to undesirable effects. Coconut water may prove particularly advantageous for individuals who consume excessive amounts of salt throughout the day, as it contains nearly three times more potassium than sodium, thereby aiding in maintaining electrolyte balance in conditions of sodium excess. The permissible amount of coconut water that can be consumed daily depends on age, health status, body weight, and primarily on the level of physical activity and climatic conditions. Coconut water, once available only in tropical and subtropical regions, is now widely available in countries with entirely different climates. The liquid endosperm of the coconut and its chemical composition may perform certain health-promoting functions and undoubtedly serve as a source of electrolytes. It is worthwhile to occasionally include coconut water in one's diet, if for no other reason than its taste and refreshing properties.
