Another Valuable Property of Coconut Oil – an Effective Remedy Against *Candida albicans*

There has been a lot of discussion about the properties of coconut oil recently, as it is one of the few that contains polyunsaturated fatty acids that do not oxidize at high temperatures, making it an ideal oil for frying, but not only that. It also works well on the skin and hair, and is useful for people during reduction diets. Recent studies have shown that coconut oil is effective in combating the spread of Candida albicans bacteria.

Antifungal properties of coconut oil in the context of *Candida albicans* overgrowth: a scientific review and practical applications

*Candida albicans*, a commensal yeast present in the human gastrointestinal microbiota, remains benign under conditions of microbial equilibrium; however, its unchecked proliferation—triggered by factors such as a diet high in ultra-processed foods, excessive alcohol consumption, and the overuse of broad-spectrum antibiotics and pharmaceutical agents—can precipitate allergic hypersensitivity reactions and systemic fungal infections. Research published in the *Journal of the American Society for Microbiology* indicates that lauric acid, a medium-chain fatty acid abundant in coconut oil, exhibits potent antifungal activity by inhibiting the growth of *C. albicans*. Controlled studies conducted by scientists at *Tufts University* using rodent models demonstrated that dietary supplementation with this tropical oil significantly attenuates the risk of pathological yeast colonization, thereby offering promising avenues for both the prevention and adjunctive management of intestinal candidiasis.
