The protein diet has recently gained many adherents and enjoys significant interest. However, few are aware that its application can result in liver damage, kidney overload, painful constipation, and even elevated LDL levels, commonly known as bad cholesterol. Is it then worth subjecting ourselves to risk for a few lost kilograms?

Potential risks and disadvantages of the Dukan Diet

Deviation from the recommended nutrient ratios (15% protein, 25% fat, 60% carbohydrates) may result in malnutrition, the monotony of the diet can lead to nutrient deficiencies, increase bodily acidity, and disrupt acid-base balance, lack of fiber may promote constipation, insufficient carbohydrate intake negatively affects brain function, reduces concentration, and weakens muscle strength, the diet is unsuitable for diabetics, professional drivers, and individuals where sudden hypoglycemia may have severe consequences. Excessive protein intake can lead to an excess of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol, the diet may strain the kidneys, increasing the risk of hypertension, kidney stones, swelling, and infections. Due to the harmful effects on certain organs, the diet should not exceed 7-21 days. Prolonging the diet requires medical consultation.

Benefits of the Dukan Diet:

Efficient and rapid weight reduction, enhanced skin condition through the intake of animal protein and collagen, substantial decrease in sugar, sweets, and highly processed food consumption, which are risk factors for numerous serious illnesses, including cancer. The products recommended in the Dukan diet are readily available, flavorful, and nutrient-rich, effectively suppressing hunger due to protein's appetite-suppressing effects, resulting in sustainable weight loss without the yo-yo effect. Nevertheless, the Dukan diet, like any other dietary approach, has certain drawbacks and should be implemented with due caution, preferably under professional supervision. With appropriate care and common sense, the Dukan diet can indeed be regarded as an effective strategy for shedding excess weight.
