Beyond conventional cow’s milk, today’s consumers have access to a diverse array of mammalian milk products, including those derived from sheep, goats, donkeys, and even camels. Additionally, the term "milk" is colloquially extended to plant-based beverages such as those made from soy, oats, rice, or almonds. It is critical to note, however, that the biochemical composition of animal-derived milk varies substantially depending on the source, exhibiting marked differences in protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamin, and mineral content—factors that significantly influence nutritional value and potential dietary applications.

Sheep's milk

It is produced mainly around the Mediterranean basin. In Poland it is obtained in the mountainous areas of Bieszczady, Podhalu, but also in Podlasiu and Wielkopolsce. The greater the fat content, the more yellow the milk obtained. It is not readily available in sweet-orange flavours and pleasant smells. It can be found in the supermarket with healthy seafood products and on the Internet. The average price per litre of oatmeal, oats and oats is 1 mg [12 mg], but it is also available in Podlasia and Wielskopolce.

Sheep's milk properties

However, due to its high energy content, it can be a good substitute for the milk class on a high-calorie diet. It should be remembered that it has twice the fat content of the alternative milk. It must be noted that the milk has a higher percentage of leucine. One should pay attention to the fact that it does not affect the proper functioning of the nervous system.

Does sheep's milk contain lactose?

Like all milk from mammals, sheep milk also contains about 5.1 g of lactose. Values are similar to cow's milk (Table 1). Therefore, people with milk sugar intolerance (depending on individual tolerance) should avoid it. As with cow milk, its products, such as cheese or yogurt, can be better tolerated by the body [3]. Sheep milk is higher in protein and fat, which affects its greater energy efficiency. It is a good source of protein, calcium and vitamin B. Therefore, it can be introduced as a daily dietary supplement.
