Who is the Swiftest Pole in History?

Swiftness is something that has fascinated humans for centuries... and the lone warriors who win the title of the fastest runner come together for the 100, 400, and 10,000 meters.

The quickest delegate of Poland

Currently, the quickest Pole is Karol Zalewski, who is the only one of our compatriots capable of achieving speeds of up to 41 km/h. This native of Warmia is currently unbeatable in both the 100 and 200 meters and also has success in the 400-meter run. His training programs are not the standard training units for a typical sprinter - Karol often runs long distances (even over 1000 meters) and does this on very short rest breaks.

The Speediest Polish Woman

Of the more than 60 million Poles dispersed around the globe, half are women. Which one of them is the fastest? The answer may surprise many, but in the land over the Vistula, the 17-year-old Ewa Śwoboda from Żory is unrivaled. Under the supervision of coach Iwona Krupy, Ewa runs the 100 meters in 11.24 seconds, which is nearly 0.2 seconds faster than the other contestants (this is considered a significant advantage in sprinting). What's even more noteworthy is that Ewa is still a junior. Given her age and progress, it is possible that she will succeed in breaking the 29-year-old national record of Ewa Kasprzyk of 10.93 seconds in the near future.

Poles in the global perspective

In comparison to the dominating dark-skinned individuals, Poles seem rather pale. However, the achievements of Freedom (including 4th and 5th place in the World Junior and Cadet Championships) provide satisfaction that the situation may soon change. At present, the fastest woman in the world is Jamaica, Shelly Ann Fraser, who runs the 100 meters in 10.79 seconds. Among men, there is no comparison to the American Justin Gatlin, who runs 100 meters in 9.74 seconds.
