Triathlon is a sporting discipline for the most persevering athletes, requiring the completion of multi-kilometre distances across three different types of disciplines: swimming, cycling, and running. There are many variations of this discipline, which differ in the length of individual sections. Is that really what competitions are all about, and how does one begin training?

Triathlon - participation guidelines

In triathlon, the winner is the competitor who achieves the best time. All its variations are based on individual competition, never team competition. There are no uniform, consistent rules for participation, which is due to the great diversity of areas where competitions are held. Nevertheless, it can be stated that most of the rules are in accordance with those that apply in individual disciplines, i.e. swimming, cycling and marathon. Competitors are not allowed to use any technical aids - their only equipment can be a watch and water. This means that, for example, swimming fins or masks with snorkels for breathing are prohibited. They are also not allowed to use any assistance. The only support that is provided to competitors is that which is provided by specially selected volunteers. This usually involves providing food to the athletes.

Triathlon Categories

There exist numerous distinct kinds of triathlon, and the solitary attribute that differentiates them is the length of the individual stages that the competitors must traverse.

Depending on the degree of difficulty, it distinguishes itself

He also participates in the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the International Triathlon Union (ITU) for long-distance (4 km, 130 km, 30 km) Half-Ironman (1,9 km, 90 km, 21 km) Ironman and Iron (3,8 km, 180 km, 42 km) Ultra Triathlon (10 km, 421 km, 84 km).

What sort of preparation is required for a triathlon?

Preparation for the triathlon is highly intense. It does not permit focusing solely on the strength of the legs, arms, or back. In order to complete even the shortest distance, a significant amount of time must be dedicated to strength and swim training. The training plan includes cycling, regular swimming at the pool, and running. However, these activities should not be taken lightly. All routes should be timed from the beginning and during each training session, one should strive to improve the previous record. This does not mean, however, that the daily routine can be restricted to only these three activities. It is necessary to incorporate plyometric exercises into the plan, which develop both speed and strength. Participants preparing for the Ironman must avoid injuries, as even a week off can have a significant impact on their results.

How to initiate triathlon training?

At the commencement, it is vital to concentrate on improving your physical fitness and ensuring appropriate motivation. It is wise to prepare mentally for the fact that the shortest triathlon requires at least an hour of truly intense exertion. To manage this, it is better to prepare a time reserve and be ready for at least two hours of regular cardio exercise. Such a course of action will enable the attainment of better endurance.
