Low stature
Athletes of low stature are indispensable in sports where reaction speed and agility are crucial factors. The compact body structure and short limbs facilitate exceptional reflexes. Moreover, individuals of diminutive height display enhanced control over their movements. This advantage is rooted in the period of puberty when adolescents suddenly undergo a growth spurt, often accompanied by a degree of awkwardness related to their lengthened limbs. Those of reduced height, however, bypass this challenging phase and maintain an impressive command over their movements. Consequently, this benefit is discernible in sports that emphasize artistic and aesthetic elements, such as dance.
Lofty physique
A lofty physique is a highly sought-after attribute, particularly in team games such as basketball or volleyball. It also offers a substantial advantage in professional swimming and running. However, this correctness pertains more to long distances rather than short distances. Long limbs provide excellent conditions for competitive sports in the heavyweight category. A large reach and the ability to maintain distance from the opponent from the start offer an advantage. A lofty physique is beneficial in all disciplines where victory is achieved through long jumps or throws.
Thin physique and moderate height
The size of the body is important for success in certain sports such as dancing, artistic gymnastics, and figure skating. The current world champion in figure skating Mao Asada is only 162 cm tall, while the 2014 Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu is 171 cm tall. A small body size makes it easier to perform gymnastic exercises, such as partner activities or salting. It can be risked that athletes with a lean build and short stature will also be good drivers. Not only in four-wheelers, but also... in hooves. The leading Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are both 174 cm tall. The pressure to reduce weight often forces rally drivers to adopt strict diets, so it is genetically advantageous to have a lower BMI. A similar situation exists in horse racing - a light jockey is an indispensable partner for a fast horse. An excessive height is also not desirable in football - exceptions apply to goalkeepers. The discussed body type is additionally best suited for high-altitude climbing, Eastern martial arts (especially Muay Thai), cycling, and ski jumping.
Lean physique and towering stature
Long limbs and a lean stature constitute the classic formula for an ideal swimmer. Polish leader, Paweł Korzeniowski, stands at a towering 192 cm. The greater the stature, the easier it is to find one's place in volleyball as well - currently the white-red team falls within the range of 184-208 cm. Stature facilitates the execution of effective blocks. Large feet and long legs contribute to achieving success in long-distance running. It is important to note, however, that the fastest man in the world is Usain Bolt, who stands at a towering 194 cm. Being tall is a necessary prerequisite for professional pole vaulting and long jump, as well as for a career as a goalkeeper in football.
Low to moderate height combined with a sturdy physique
A low to moderate height coupled with a robust and muscular build are advantageous attributes for sports such as weightlifting. For instance, the Polish Olympian Andrzej Supron stands at 169 cm tall. Such a physique is a rarity. Statistically speaking, it is also less susceptible to bone and joint injuries. Consequently, athletes with comparable dimensions excel as weightlifters. One of the most distinguished athletes in this category, who has sadly passed away, was Waldemar Baszanowski, who stood at 165 cm tall.
Tall stature and significant muscle mass
A tall stature and the ease of building muscle tissue are excellent conditions for professional bodybuilding. All strength sports, including strongmen's competitions, are associated with such measurements. Large size and body mass are a prerequisite for a career in hammer throwing. The youngest gold medalist in history, Paweł Fajdek, weighs 126 kg at 186 cm. Being tall also gives an advantage in basketball (average height of NBA players 201 cm, average weight 100 kg). A massive body structure opens the door to professional boxing in the heavyweight category.
