Porridge is a small fruit with a very acidic flavor that will not only work well in desserts, but also excellently highlight the composition of many other dishes. It is worth paying attention to them especially in the summer, as porridge is rich in valuable ingredients. Below you will find 3 recipes in which these small but delicious fruits are used.
Berries – their health properties
Berries are among the most popular berry fruits in Poland and are available in many color varieties such as black, red, and white. Each of these colors encompasses many different varieties. The berry is characterized by a tart taste and a short shelf life, which is why it is often processed into juices, mousses, or jams. However, it is recommended to include them in the diet in their raw form, as they then contain the highest amount of active ingredients, such as vitamin C, flavonoids, anthocyanins, pectins, and small amounts of minerals such as magnesium, potassium, iron, calcium, and iodine. In this way, the berry can have a positive effect on the circulatory system, digestive system, and immune system. There are also reports that berries may help reduce the symptoms of autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis and Hashimoto due to their content of unsaturated fatty acids (M. Oczkowski 2021). Berries are also very low in calories (100 g contains only 51 kcal) and have a low glycemic index, making them a good choice for people with glucose intolerance. 100 g of berries contain only 15 g of simple carbohydrates. The documented health benefits of berries include: strengthening the immune system, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, supporting kidney function, and reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases (A. Krzepiłko et al. 2018). Berry extracts are often used in natural dietary supplements.
