The TLC Dietary Program (Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes) was developed by researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, specializing in biomedical health research. It emphasizes the quality and quantity of fats in daily nutrition and promotes lifestyle modifications that include both dietary adjustments and increased physical activity.

The TLC diet is indicative

The Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes diet is primarily dedicated to people who are struggling with cardiovascular disease, especially hypercholesterolemia, and those who are genetically impaired with these diseases. However, it is not the only target group. In fact, the diet can be used by anyone as a way to prevent many diseases and maintain good health. With adequate calorie intake, it can prove to be an effective way to lose extra kilograms.

The TLC diet is the rule

The main rules to be followed are: limit fat to 2535% of the daily intake, of which only 7% should be saturated fat (for people with a 2000 kcal intake is about 13 g of satured fat per day); consume 1025 g of insoluble fiber per day (blocking the absorption of harmful fats from the digestive system), which is found in all whole grains and vegetables and fruits; provide a regular intake of 2 g sterols and vegetable fats (reduce the LDL cholesterol fraction).

The TLC diet recommended and prohibited products

The book Your Guide to Lowering Your Cholesterol With TLC describes in detail the groups, quantities and types of foods that are intended to help lower lipid levels and improve overall well-being. Every day we should consume: at least 6 servings of cereal products (1 serving is e.g. 1 cup of whole grain bread, a small handful of oatmeal chips or 1⁄2 cup of boiled rice); 35 servings (this is 1 cup) of vegetables (1 cup) or 1 serving of potatoes; 24 serving of fruit (1 cup, for example, 1 cup, of fast-growing fresh fruit products or 1 1/2 cup of fresh fruit, for instance) or 2 1⁄2 cups of oats, for which we should take into account the fact that we have a very high percentage of natural vegetable fats (e.g., 1 cup per week); we should also take into consideration the importance of using a small amount of dried vegetable oil (for example, 150 grams per day); 15 serving of fresh vegetable seeds (1 cups per day) or a small quantity of fresh

The TLC diet is a menu

Breakfast: a small pack of natural yogurt with 2 tablespoons of oatmeal flakes, 2 spoons of dried cranberries, and 2 spoonfuls of almond flakes. Breakfast is: 2 slices of barley bread with avocado paste, turkey ham, tomato and basil.
