Sitting at a cost to health: How a sedentary lifestyle contributes to atherosclerosis
The modern pace of life often requires individuals to spend the majority of their day in a seated position, both at work and during leisure time. Scientific research confirms that such a lifestyle increases the risk of developing atherosclerosis. In an analysis involving over 2,000 participants of varying ages, body mass, and smoking habits, it was found that participants remained inactive for an average of 5.1 hours daily. The results indicate that each additional hour spent sitting raises the likelihood of arterial calcification. Regular physical activity, even at a moderate level, can effectively counteract atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, running for 30 minutes every other day may help prevent osteoporosis in later life.
