What is the meaning of SAA?

SAA is an abbreviation for "silk amino acids". It refers to a complex of amino acids that occur in a specific ratio. These compounds are derived from glycoproteins found in the silk cocoon of Bombyx mori, which are obtained through the process of hydrolysis. The degree of this process determines the amount and type of amino acids obtained, which in turn affects the biologic activity of the entire preparation. In the case of SAA, we are dealing with unique peptide sequences that, due to their higher resistance to stomach enzymes, support regenerative processes.

Components and Functioning of SAA

As previously noted, the specific repetitive sequences of peptides are indeed two particular protein types - sericin and fibroin, commonly referred to as silk. In the case of SAA, however, we are discussing structures encompassing almost 20 distinct basic amino compounds. Consequently, silk itself is present in two forms, differentiated by their protein content. The manner in which they are hydrolyzed is responsible for the quantity of amino acids constituting our fiber and fiber molecules.

Opinions and Scientific Research

The 2013 study, conducted on mice, aimed to test the actual effects of Bombyx mori amino acids. For 44 days, swimming tests were performed on four groups of rodents. Upon completion of the study, it was found that mice with the lowest cortisol levels and highest testosterone levels received a dose of 50 mg. However, the results were not transferred to human supplementation. In the following years, Polish scientists decided to investigate the effectiveness and necessity of using SAA in male swimmers. The participants in the experiment were aged between 17.5 and 21 years and all belonged to the national swimming team. The experiment was carried out during a twelve-day training camp, during which the swimmers underwent three daily training sessions. Over the course of 12 days in the training camp, the athletes spent approximately 65 hours in training. The participants had not previously taken supplements and were divided into two groups: a test group and a control group. The test group used 500 mg of SAA in combination with a carbohydrate supplement, while the control group used a similar mixture without SAA. The scientific results showed that SAA supplementation contributes to improved aerobic endurance, maximum swimming speed, and testosterone synthesis.
