Spirulina, rice commos, goji berries or barley grass are the most popular products in the category of so-called superfoods. If you're interested in a healthy lifestyle, you might still hear about what you should eat to avoid cancer or how to fight a weakened immune system. Encouraged by their amazing and healthy properties, we often try to include them in our diet at all costs. However, the question arises - are there really no products in Poland that could also be considered superfoods? Do we really have to spend large sums to eat healthily?
What exactly is a superfood?
Superfoods are highly popular among individuals who prioritize healthy eating. Their composition, rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and proteins, suggests that regular consumption of these foods can significantly enhance physical fitness. Some consumers are willing to spend substantial amounts on these exotic products, expecting immediate results. However, research indicates that similar benefits can be achieved through the consumption of locally sourced foods. The discussion is not about questioning the advantages of superfoods, but rather about recognizing that we often overlook the health benefits of local products, which do not require extensive transportation to reach our plates. Even if superfoods contain higher levels of nutrients at the time of harvest, their nutritional value decreases during transit and storage.
Polish alternatives to superfoods
There is currently no single official list of superfoods. The list includes over a dozen items. All of them are available in popular supermarkets or organic food stores. Additional information can be found on websites. However, it is much harder to find details about Polish, equally valuable alternatives.
