The awareness of the health benefits associated with eating raspberries has existed since ancient times. Currently, the oil derived from raspberry seeds is gaining popularity due to the presence of large amounts of essential, unsaturated fatty acids (NFCs), many vitamins, and antioxidant compounds. Does raspberry seed oil truly exert a positive impact on acne?

Raspberry seed oil – a natural health elixir

Raspberries, commonly enjoyed as berry fruits, are consumed not only fresh or frozen but also in processed forms: dried, freeze-dried, as a flavor enhancer in yogurt, jams, jellies, and wines. During the production of wines and juices, the seeds are discarded and mistakenly regarded as a byproduct. Johansson and other researchers discovered that raspberry seeds constitute 9–12% of the fruit's weight, yielding 10–23% valuable oil. Cold-pressed raspberry seed oil is a rich source of nutrients that improve hair, skin, and nails. Regular consumption supports overall health by providing polyunsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants such as tocopherols, phytosterols, and bioflavonoids. The oil contains linoleic and linolenic acids, essential fatty acids that must be obtained daily through diet, as the body cannot synthesize them independently.

Applications and health benefits of raspberry seed oil

Scientific research led by Pieszka's team demonstrated that raspberry seed oil supplementation does not alter lipid levels in the blood but effectively reduces inflammatory markers, which play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of diet-related conditions such as obesity, atherosclerosis, and insulin resistance. In another study, Fotschki and colleagues found that the use of raspberry seed oil improves lipid profiles and liver function, particularly in diets rich in healthy fats and fiber. Additionally, a reduction in oxidative stress was observed, suggesting that raspberry seed oil may serve as a valuable component in a health-promoting diet.

Raspberry seed oil for acne treatment

Raspberry seed oil is a valued cosmetic ingredient used in the care of dry, problematic, oily, mature, and acne-prone skin. Its versatility stems from its moisturizing and regenerative properties. It contains a high concentration of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are quickly absorbed by the skin and prevent moisture loss. Regular use results in soft, delicate, and flexible skin. This product helps restore the proper water-lipid balance in both oily and dry skin. The best effects are observed with daily application, especially in the evening. Proper hydration is crucial for acne-prone skin, as it accelerates the healing of imperfections. Raspberry seed oil is rich in vitamin A, which supports skin renewal, and vitamin E with anti-inflammatory, soothing, and regenerative properties. Despite its higher cost, it is worth storing it in a dark glass bottle in a cool, dark place, such as the refrigerator, to prevent the oxidation of sensitive fatty acids.
