Currently, the popularity of natural dietary supplements, including the mountain plant, whose health benefits are increasingly being utilized in the treatment and prevention of various ailments, is growing. What is this plant and how should it be used to reap the maximum benefit from its effects?
What is the case with a medicinal herb?
The medicinal herb belongs to the family of Lamiaceae. In systematic classification, there are over 100 distinct species. It can also be referred to as Lebanese sage, myramiah, or mountain tea. Although the plant has only recently become a trendy dietary supplement, its healing properties have long been known in the Balkans and the Middle East.
Characteristics and applications of Lebanese sage
Over time, other therapeutic applications of Lebanese sage have been observed. The antibacterial properties of Lebanese sage have been shown to be beneficial to the respiratory system, as well as to other diseases such as inflammatory bowel conditions, pneumonia, or bronchitis. In the latter cases, however, the plant has been used as a complementary therapy, increasing the body's immune system, thus limiting the further development of the disease. It has been found that the sage has strong anti-inflammatory properties. It has also been shown that regular consumption of sage tea regulates the production of two important neurotransmitters – dopamine and serotonin. These substances are often referred to as happiness hormones or mood-enhancing compounds. A lack of these neurotransmitters results in a significant worsening of mood, irritability, and increased stress. Some researchers studying the therapeutic properties of Lebanese sage point to its positive impact on sexual performance. However, the number of studies in this direction is still too small to confirm this.
The preparation method
Lebanese sage is usually available in dried form. A tablespoon of this dried herb should be flooded with boiling water and then left to steep under cover for 5 to 10 minutes. To improve the taste of the drink, you can add lemon, ginger, lemon balm, mint, or a small amount of honey. Individuals using Lebanese sage brews to enhance immunity should consume a maximum of one cup per day. In cases of serious illness, they should use a maximum of three portions of this drink per day. Remember that pregnant women should not consume Lebanese sage, as there is no research on the impact of this herbal tea on the fetus.
