Just a few years ago, only a small number of individuals were aware of the significance of a nutritious diet for health and well-being. Now that awareness has increased, many are questioning what they should consume to live longer and enhance their well-being. In addition to introducing a substantial amount of fresh vegetables and fruits into the diet, certain products should be avoided. These few recommendations will assist those seeking a healthier diet in feeling better and maintaining their health!

Removal of refined sugar from diet

It is not possible to speak of a healthy diet when one continues to consume empty calories in purest form. Eating refined sugar is the quickest way to gain obesity, diabetes, and damage to the pancreas. The body is unable to metabolize large amounts of simple sugars safely. Compound carbohydrates are much more advantageous, which release energy slowly, so that the pancreas does not have to overproduce insulin, which carries excess energy from sugar directly to the fat tissue. Avoid also other sources of simple carbohydrates and sweeteners, such as glucose-fructose syrup, glucose, aspartame, acesulfame K, saccharin, sorbitol, mannitol, and replace them with sweeteners with a low glycemic index, which do not cause a sudden increase in blood sugar levels, such as xylitol or erythritol. Their next advantage is the lower calorie content, in the case of erythritol almost completely absent.

Limiting the consumption of white flour

White flour is a refined product in which the cereal is devoid of seed husks, which serves as a rich source of dietary fiber and B vitamins. Due to the fiber content in whole grains, the digestion of carbohydrates takes longer, and energy is slowly released. All products made from white flour, such as baked goods, pastries, and sweets, have a high content. Replace white flour with whole grain flour or with sources of gluten-free carbohydrates, such as buckwheat, millet, rice, amaranth, rice wildgrass, or oat flakes. Regular consumption of various products provides a wide range of nutrients that are missing in daily consumption of products made from white flour. Replace wheat bread with sourdough bread. Yeast not only provides probiotic bacteria but also neutralizes part of the phytic acid found in cereals, which hinders the absorption of micronutrients.

Utilize harmless unprocessed fats

The vegetable oils sold in the markets are transformed through refining. Refining is the purification of the oil with chemical substances and at high heat. The end product is clear, almost odorless and nutrient-poor, because we obtain harmful, oxidized forms of valuable, unsaturated fats instead of the fats themselves. If we additionally fry on such oil, we get a mixture of free radicals that damage the body from the inside. Instead, for salads, choose non-refined oils that are cold-pressed, such as olive oil or linseed oil. Never add linseed oil to hot dishes and always store it in the refrigerator for no longer than 3 months from the production date. For frying, choose coconut oil or melted butter, which you can make at home by heating a piece of butter on a very low flame.

Avoid the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages

The consumption of colorful beverages and fruit juices significantly increases daily sugar intake. Some of them may contain more than 10 teaspoons of sugar in a half-liter container. How is it possible that their taste is not dull? The sweet taste is masked by adding acid to the drink. Particularly harmful are beverages sold in cans, as under the influence of acid metals may be released from the can, which can accumulate in the body, as well as Bisphenol A, which may have many harmful effects, such as disrupting thyroid and hormone function, increasing the risk of breast and prostate cancer, and disrupting neurotransmitter function in the brain. Instead of sugar-sweetened beverages, consume plenty of water, green tea, or herbal teas, which have proven, beneficial effects on the body.
