Tropical fruits are an extraordinary source of nutrients, such as kiwano, a fruit which is a protoplastic banana and kiwi, and which should be consumed due to its valuable properties that promote health.

What is kiwana?

Kiwana, also known as African cucumber or Colchasty cucumber, is a cucumber variety. Its natural origin is in the areas of Africa, from the Cape region up to the northern parts of Sudan, but it can also be found on the Arabian Peninsula, mainly in Yemen. The African cucumber is characterized by its unique appearance, the oval fruit is covered in a yellowish-orange, thick skin with spikes resembling those found on chestnuts. Inside the outer layer is a delicate and juicy core, whose flavor is remarkably similar to that of kiwi and banana. The word 'kiwana' is derived from the combination of the names of these two fruits. Although the popularity of this plant is currently low in Poland, it is increasingly being found in stores selling natural food products.

Special attributes

Similar to a majority of tropical fruits, the kiwano demonstrates a diverse composition based on numerous microelements. The collagen of kiwano contains a substantial quantity of health-promoting elements such as phosphorus, manganese, potassium, calcium, and iron. Kiwano is also a rich source of ascorbic acid, commonly known as vitamin C, which boosts the immune system. The African fruit also contains many B-group vitamins and retinol, the valuable vitamin A for healthy skin and sharp eyesight. Furthermore, kiwano has a low energy value, contains small amounts of fats and carbohydrates, making it an effective tool in low-calorie diets aimed at reducing excess weight.

Applications of horned melon fruits

Horned melon fruits, also known as kiwano, are a plant that can be beneficial in nutrition plans for individuals with a variety of health issues. This is due to its high content of ingredients that can impact the proper functioning of the heart and liver. Furthermore, horned melon fruits have significant cleansing properties, which are associated with their diuretic properties. The low calorie content of horned melon fruits is also important, as they contain minimal amounts of fats and carbohydrates. As a result, they can be used in low-energy diets that are targeted at reducing excess body weight. Horned melon fruits are often used as an ingredient in many dishes, including salads and cocktails. Additionally, due to their ability to quench thirst, they are frequently used in various beverages.
