Discoveries by Dr. Steventon demonstrate that diet has an influence on skin condition... If we select products with a high glycemic index, we augment the likelihood of acne.

Acne and the glycemic index: How diet impacts skin health

Excessive sebum production and accelerated skin cell turnover are often linked to elevated blood sugar levels. Such metabolic disturbances contribute to the development of acne. Controlling blood sugar levels after meals can be achieved by selecting foods with a low glycemic index (GI). These do not cause significant fluctuations in blood sugar, thereby reducing the risk of excessive sebum production. This knowledge allows for the creation of an appropriate diet for acne sufferers, based on low-GI foods. However, it is important to note that sugar is not the only factor causing acne – harmful habits such as smoking or excessive alcohol consumption can also negatively impact skin health.
