A consistent practice of face yoga has positive effects on releasing tensions, oxygenation, and strengthening the facial muscles. Many individuals are not aware of the number of tensions accumulating in this body part. Face yoga effectively aids in combating them. However, it is crucial to note that only persistent practice of face yoga can yield long-term gains.

This is a very beneficial practice for individuals of all ages, regardless of their abilities. The advantage lies in the fact that it can be performed almost anywhere, both at home and outdoors. Even training sessions lasting from 10 to 15 minutes can bring visible results. Any form of physical activity has a positive impact on improving health and performance, so it is worth dedicating a little time each day and taking care of one's health, which will certainly bring benefits in the future.

Advantages of practicing exercises for the face, aka face yoga

Benefits of consistently performing exercises for the face, also known as face yoga: – diminishing tension concentrated in the facial area (most often due to stress) and fatigue throughout the day, – improving blood circulation, – alleviating wrinkles – even a few minutes of face yoga impacts the gentle stretching of the skin, which aids in reducing wrinkles, primarily mimic, – strengthening the muscles of the face, – decreasing inflammation, – enhancing well-being, a way to relax, – learning to control breath.

Facial yoga in the light of scientific research – does it have an effect?

Improving the appearance of the face has long been the domain of plastic surgeons and dermatologists who offer ever-new methods and treatments to eliminate imperfections. However, in recent times, a non-medical approach has also gained popularity, including the regular practice of facial yoga. In 2013, J. Van Borsel and colleagues conducted a review of studies on the positive effects of facial yoga on the human body. In a further study from 2018, participants aged 30-65 years old practiced facial yoga for 8 weeks, 30 minutes daily, and then for a further 12 weeks, 3-4 times a week. The participants reported an improvement in skin appearance, fuller cheeks, and a higher cheekbone line after completing the study (M. Alam and colleagues, 2018). In another study, the effect of practicing facial yoga on facial aesthetics was investigated. Four women aged 55-87 years old were selected for the study. During 10 weeks, the participants performed individually adapted exercises at home and participated in sessions with a therapist. It was found that all participants had reduced wrinkles, improved movements related to chewing, speaking, or swallowing, and improved facial symmetry (K. D. F. Matos and colleagues, 2010).

Regularly performing these exercises can slow down the aging process of the skin, improve its condition, elasticity and blood flow. Additionally, the facial muscles can relax, leading to a relaxing effect. Facial yoga exercises can be done almost anywhere, outdoors, at work or at home. It is a type of exercise suitable for people of all ages, regardless of their progress. Based on selected studies, it can be concluded that facial yoga exercises can have a positive impact on slowing down the aging process, reducing visible wrinkles, rejuvenating the skin, and strengthening the facial muscles. However, further research is needed with a larger number of participants and a control group.
