During routine morning activities or a hectic workday, we rarely have time to prepare a delicious cup of coffee... Then, we resort to a quick solution by using coffee from a blend in a sachet, which we only need to pour boiling water over to obtain a drink with coffee, cream, and sugar... However, before consuming this drink, please read the label carefully and check the constituents of what you will actually drink.
“3-in-1 Coffee”: A Convenience or a Compromise on Quality and Health?
During travel, "3-in-1 coffee" sachets undeniably offer unparalleled convenience by eliminating the need to carry separate containers of coffee, sugar, and cream. However, a closer examination of their composition reveals a stark contrast: while the additive-free version contains 100% soluble coffee, variants with sugar or creamer include a mere 10% coffee extract. The remaining 90% consists of sugar, hydrogenated vegetable fats, and preservatives designed to extend shelf life and prevent caking. The outcome? A beverage with an artificial, coffee-like flavor. Furthermore, instant coffee—being a dehydrated extract—contains less caffeine than freshly ground coffee and may harbor acrylamide, a potentially harmful compound formed during processing. The healthiest option remains freshly ground whole-bean coffee, albeit more time-consuming. Unfortunately, convenience often correlates with diminished nutritional value and quality.
