Causes Behind the Development of Overweight and Obesity

A persistent disruption in energy equilibrium is responsible for the development of overweight and obesity. When the energy provided through food exceeds the physiological needs of the body, the excess is accumulated in the form of fat tissue. Does this truly affect the positive energy balance?
Obesity as unintentional calorie consumption
Often, without the awareness of the calorie content of the products, we eat something fast and we don't realize that it can contribute to our weight gain. Now, 100 extra calories a day can increase our weight by five kilograms a year. For example, being convinced that fruits are not fat makes us not pay attention to their calories, and it can vary significantly. So, for example, 100 grams of banana (i.e. one small piece of fruit) contains 95 calories and 100 grams of raspberries (not a full glass) is 29 calories. So just eat one banana too much a day and you can exceed your energy consumption.
Irregular consumption of meals
Regular and systematic consumption of meals each day plays a very important role in maintaining a healthy body weight. Providing oneself with five meals at fixed times is a very important component of proper nutrition. Irregular and inconsistent consumption of meals can slow down the metabolic process and lead to an increased level of energy in the body.
Refraining from ingesting breakfast
The breakfast is the most significant meal of the day, it supplies the body with required energy and stimulates metabolism. It is best consumed within two hours of awakening, as that is when it fulfills its purpose. Regular intake of breakfasts aids in weight management. Abstention from them only intensifies hunger and may lead to an increase in the amount of food consumed during subsequent meals.
Avoidance of water consumption and inappropriate beverage selection
The human body lacks the ability to store water, hence the necessity to replenish its deficiency regularly. To ensure proper functioning of the organism, it is necessary to consume at least 1.5 liters of water daily. The daily requirement depends on physical activity, physiological state, and climatic conditions. Water is responsible for numerous processes, such as removal of metabolites, digestive processes, moisturization of joints and eye lenses, and maintenance of the balance of the entire body. A lack of water in the diet can lead to a slowdown in metabolism, which can result in the accumulation of fat tissue. Another mistake is consuming an excess of sweetened beverages, which are easily absorbed by the body, leading to a surplus of readily available energy. Fructose added to beverages and processed products stimulates appetite and also becomes a source of unnecessary calories.
Inappropriate preparation of dishes
Frying is the most commonly utilized method for meal preparation. However, dishes prepared through this method are detrimental to health and contain an excessive amount of calories.
„Lack of physical activity"
Over time, the conveniences of daily life have increasingly pushed physical activity to the back burner. Nowadays, everyone has a car, a TV remote control is a must-have, and many things can be done via the internet without leaving the house. Consequently, in our daily lives, we are less likely to make our muscles work, resulting in less energy expenditure.
