A boxing bag is symbolic for us of practicing boxing techniques and getting rid of negative emotions and reducing stress. However, it is also a training device that can be used in various ways depending on the type of bag we are using. I love training on boxing bags, and you? In this article, I will introduce you to several categories of boxing bags and their intended use.

Classic boxing pouches

The classic boxing pouch is the oldest version of this type of equipment and it has been used for a very long time. It is a versatile piece of equipment that can be used in both sports that focus on striking and those that require kicks. The length of the pouch determines its versatility. The weight of the pouch is also an important factor. The heavier the pouch, the harder it becomes. Heavier pouches help to develop punching power, while lighter pouches are an excellent way to absorb impact. Mike Tyson used to train on very heavy pouches, which contributed to his destructive punching power. A classic pouch is made up of two parts: the cover and the filling. It can be filled with material, sand or kaletnic waste. Short classic pouches can be used for training speed and evasion, as they change their position after every hit. MMA fighters also use them for throwing to train throwing opponents. The way the pouch is closed is also important. The covers can be closed either with a latch, which is recommended, or with a rope.

Specialized, profiled pouches

Specialized, profiled pouches are a more advanced version of traditional training bags. They are also known as hook pouches. However, the profiling of the pouch can vary significantly depending on the martial art it was designed for, and even the specific training technique. Hook pouches are expanded at the top and narrowed at the bottom, primarily intended for boxers to train chin and hook punches. Of course, such pouches can also be used in regular training, but they are less accessible and more expensive than their classic counterparts. The easiest way to obtain them is on individual order.

Standing, flat and wall-mounted bag

Another kind of bag is the standing bag, which is intended for outdoor training. In reality, it is a simple, classic boxing bag placed on a special metal tube with a properly weighted base that provides stability. These bags are fairly easy to knock over, especially when they are not correctly loaded. There is also a special kind of standing bag - the training mannequin, which resembles a human body and is intended for technical training. It is highly specialized and difficult to find. Flat bags are only intended for kicking training, which limits their use. Most commonly used are wall bags, which are attached to the wall and are ideal when there is no room to hang a regular bag.

Boxing speed bags

Boxing speed bags are specifically engineered bags designed for speed and reflex training. There are two basic types of these bags. The first type is the bag attached to the platform. During training, we hit it so that it bounces off the platform. This helps improve hand speed, reflexes, and the ability to sense rhythm. Training on these bags is not as straightforward as it may seem at first glance. Even the best boxers constantly train on them to never forget their benefits. You can even become so skilled that you no longer need to look at the bag while striking.

Summary

We have at our disposal a huge number of variations of boxing bags, each of which has its own variants. It is also easy to acquire unique bags that are made exclusively to order. For home training, a classic boxing bag is sufficient. If we decide to mount a pear, neighbors might be disturbed due to the noise. Exercises developing reflexes, on the other hand, require a bit more space than a regular bag. Training with advanced martial arts equipment develops the entire body, improves coordination, and teaches proper punching technique. Intensive workouts on the bag can also be an alternative for boring cardio sessions. I invite everyone who hasn't had the opportunity to try it yet.
