Single-Day Nutritional Program with Oats

Often, when we search for a suitable nutritional program, be it a reduction or a cleansing one, we encounter detoxification or monodiets, which also include the single-day nutritional program with oats. What connects these diets? Primarily, they rely on an unphysiological composition of nutrients for our body, and their application can cause more harm than benefit to our body.

Recommendation for an oatmeal diet

Similar to most monodiets, the oatmeal diet is based on one nutrient, namely oatmeal. It is a low-calorie diet that may not provide our body with the necessary energy supply to function properly. Oatmeal is consumed in quantities of around 5-6 tablespoons per day. Ideally, oatmeal is made from mountain oats, boiled on water. It is also allowed to use milk and natural yogurt. During these days, one can only drink water or herbal infusions. The duration of the diet can vary from one day to a week or longer. However, it is important to remember that these recommendations are not based on any scientific evidence.

Oat flakes as a valuable source of nutrients

It is important to highlight that while the concept of a diet solely consisting of oat flakes is not the best solution, incorporating them into a balanced diet as part of a meal during the day is a good idea. The composition of oat flakes is very beneficial. It contains a significant amount of dietary fiber, about 14%. The main component of the fiber in oat flakes is soluble fiber, the main ingredients of which are beta-glucans. These ingredients have many beneficial properties, such as immune-modulating, blood pressure-lowering, and cholesterol-lowering effects. It is also worth mentioning that oat flakes contain a relatively high amount of protein compared to other grains. These proteins are a good source of exogenous amino acids. The fat present in small amounts in oat flakes is unsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid, linoleic acid). Oat flakes are also a source of thiamine, pantothenic acid, and vitamin E. They are also a good source of minerals (zinc, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, silicon) and contain a small amount of sodium.

Barley promotes weight reduction

The cornerstone for weight loss lies in a properly constructed diet, both in terms of quantity and quality. An important aspect during the period of weight loss is the presence of barley in the diet. Barley contains beta-glucan, which possesses a unique characteristic that is significant in the context of weight reduction. Specifically, the elasticity it exhibits influences the decrease in appetite and the feeling of satiety. Furthermore, by binding water to the polysaccharide structure, it causes its swelling, which can delay the passage of food contents in the digestive tract. This way, the contact between food and the mucous membrane increases, leading to a rise in the release of proteins responsible for appetite control. Additionally, β-glucans bind gall salts and cholesterol in the intestines. Barley is characterized by an average Glycemic Index.
