The beehive is a little-known product made by bees that presents a broad catalog of health benefits and has a high nutritional value. Considering the use of this product to strengthen the body and augment immunity may be rewarding.
The Procurement of a Bee's Ring
The bee's ring is fabricated by bees from floral pollen. The so-called pollen-gathering bees possess special baskets on their legs, where they collect pollen particles combined with a minute quantity of salivary glands and nectar. The resulting mixture is then transferred by the bees situated in the hive and meticulously arranged in cells. Ultimately, the pollen is moistened with saliva, mixed with honey, and beaten in layers. The uppermost layer is additionally covered with wax. Typically, bees store the ring close to the larvae, where under the influence of lactic acid fermentation, lactic acid is produced, which exerts a preservative effect and safeguards against spoilage. The chemical composition of the bee ring
It contains 25 different amino acids, including those that must be absorbed into the food by fermentation, such as methionine, lysine, threonine, histidine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan. It contains proportionally the most carbohydrates (13-55%), the composition is dominated by simple sugars, mainly glucose and fructose. The ring is also composed of water (20-30%) and protein (10-40%). It also contains ribonucleic acid and fats (1-20%), including saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. Particularly beneficial is alpha-linolenic acid. The ring also contains biologically active compounds, such as polyphenols (1.6%), including flavonoids, leukotrienes, catechins, and phenolic acids. It also contains many enzymes such as invertase, catalase, pepsin, trypsin, lipase, and lactase. The ring also contains many vitamins, including vitamin C and vitamins of the B group. It also contains minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, copper, zinc, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, cobalt, silicon, selenium, and iron. During fermentation, there is an increase in the content of simple sugars and lactic acid. A part of the protein is broken down into peptides and amino acids, which improves absorption. Additionally, the nutritional value of the ring is increased compared to pollen by the addition of digestive enzymes, organic acids, and antibacterial substances by the bees.
Health properties and effects of bee rings
Unlike honey, the ring is not sweet, but has a sour taste. The recommended daily dose should not exceed three spoons. This product can be consumed either independently or in combination with honey, water or milk. It is best to take the ring twice a day at a dose of 10 g. The anticancer action of the ring is due to the presence of unique carcinogenic compounds such as oleanolic acid, its isomer of b-ursolic acid, and betulin. They also inhibit the formation and differentiation of cancer cells and the angiogenesis process, which is particularly important in the development of cancer. Similar activity is shown by such compounds as caffeic acid, chrysin, quercetin, and camphor. Due to its unique properties, the ring is often referred to as the 'food of the gods' or the 'fountain of youth'. It is one of the oldest dietary supplements. It is usually recommended for active people due to its effect on increasing physical performance. Consuming the ring also affects the absorption of oxygen by tissues. The ring exhibits nutritional, antibiotic, and immunostimulating properties. This product can be used as an adjunct in the treatment of chronic hepatitis, chronic tonsillitis, cardiological diseases, or iron deficiency anemia. The inhibition of bacterial growth is primarily due to the content of protein substances - bacteriocin. It inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria of the genus Listeria. The ring is a product with a high antioxidant potential. Its ability to scavenge free radicals has been estimated at 72–94% and 71–92% in the ABTS+ and DPPH reaction systems, respectively.
Unwanted side effects of consuming bee rings
Bee rings should not be consumed by individuals with allergies to bee products. Otherwise, its consumption does not lead to any adverse reactions. A bee ring is a safe product, containing strength-building, immunity-enhancing, and preventative ingredients against certain types of cancer. Its high antioxidant potential and richness in mineral ingredients and vitamins make it a valuable dietary supplement.
