Regrettably, many people consume too little fluid during the day, which results in a decline in well-being. Therefore, it's important to understand how to maintain proper hydration in the body. Does hydration merely entail consuming the right amount of water?

1. Why is adequate hydration so crucial for the body?

Adequate hydration is crucial for the proper functioning of the body. Water plays a key role in many important processes, including digestion, absorption of nutrients, regulation of body temperature, maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance, and support of muscle function. Interestingly, the amount of water in the body changes throughout life. In newborns, it is about 75% of body weight, in young adults it is 60-70%, while in older adults it is only 45-55%. A lack of fluids can lead to thirst, headache, general weakness, dryness of mucous membranes, vomiting, or loss of consciousness. A lack of fluids is particularly dangerous for infants and the elderly, as it can lead to serious health problems. The need for fluids depends on age, gender, activity level, diet, and environmental temperature. Women should consume about 2 liters of fluids per day, while men should consume about 2.5 liters. However, it is important to note that fluid needs increase during hot weather, so it is particularly important to stay hydrated in such conditions.

Additionally, you can also supplement your body's fluid level with various soups. Here are products that contain a high amount of water, and their consumption can contribute to hydration of the body.

It is composed of 92% water, so it quenches thirst and refreshes well, and it also provides vitamins (e.g. C and A) and mineral components (including potassium and magnesium). They are also an excellent source of vitamin C, folic acid, potassium and antioxidants such as lycopene, beta-carotene and flavonoids. It is worth noting that the highest content of lycopene is found in tomato products such as juices, so on hot days it is recommended to drink a glass of tomato juice or prepare a refreshing chłodnik, such as gazpacho.

It's made up of more than 95% water. Interestingly, it was once thought to be a great fever healer, perhaps because of its irrigating and refreshing properties. The cucumber is low in calories and also a good source of potassium. It also contains antioxidants flavonoids and cucumbers.

A favorable option is also including in one's diet cocktails or smoothies, salads, as well as refrigerants and other soups. In addition to water, these meals will provide essential vitamins, mineral constituents, and antioxidants, which will positively impact health and well-being.
