Unfortunately, many people do not consume adequate fluid throughout the day, which leads to a decline in health. Therefore, it is important to understand how to maintain proper hydration in the body. Does hydration simply involve consuming the appropriate amount of water?

1. Why is Proper Hydration So Vital for the Body?

Proper hydration is essential for the body to function correctly. Water plays a critical role in many processes, including digestion, absorption of nutrients, regulation of body temperature, maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance, and support of muscle function. Intriguingly, the amount of water in the body changes throughout life. In newborns, it is about 75% of body weight, in young adults it is 60-70%, while in older adults it is only 45-55%. A lack of fluids can lead to thirst, headache, general weakness, dryness of mucous membranes, vomiting, or loss of consciousness. A lack of fluids is particularly dangerous for infants and the elderly, as it can lead to serious health problems. The need for fluids depends on age, gender, activity level, diet, and environmental temperature. Women should consume about 2 liters of fluids per day, while men should consume about 2.5 liters. However, it is important to note that fluid needs increase during hot weather, so it is particularly important to stay hydrated in such conditions.

Water constitutes a component of numerous food products, particularly vegetables and fruits. It can also originate from milk and dairy drinks. Furthermore, the fluid level in the body can also be supplemented by means of diverse soups. We present here commodities that contain a large quantity of water, and their consumption can contribute to the hydration of the body.

3. Freshwater turtles, also known as watermelons, are large fruits that can provide excellent support on hot days.

Composed of 92% water, freshwater turtles are an excellent means of refreshing the body and quenching thirst. Moreover, they are a rich source of vitamins (e.g. C and A) and essential mineral components (such as potassium and magnesium). Freshwater turtles are also a good source of fiber while remaining low in calories. The large amounts of carotenoids and lycopene, as well as citrulline, make this fruit a health all-rounder. Freshwater turtles have a mild diuretic effect, and the high potassium content helps regulate blood pressure. The high antioxidant content can also contribute to reducing the risk of certain civilization diseases. Furthermore, freshwater turtles promote skin and hair health due to their vitamin C and beta-carotene content. It is recommended to choose ripe fruits, as the darker the fruit flesh of the freshwater turtle, the higher the content of healthy lycopene.

4. Large, water-rich, hydrating fruit

Another member of the group of fruits that consist of more than 90% water. It is an excellent source of hydration, provides energy, and has a pleasant, sweet taste. The fruit contains rich sources of vitamins and minerals. It also contains health-promoting polyphenols. Thanks to the presence of a significant amount of fiber, it supports digestion. It is ideal for salads, desserts, and as a beverage ingredient. However, it is important to note that this fruit has a high glycemic index and is therefore not recommended for people with diabetes or insulin resistance.

5. Ordinary tomatoes

A very popular and widely recognized vegetable in Poland. Interestingly, it is botanically classified as a fruit. It contains around 94% water, making it an excellent means of providing the body with additional fluids. The best, most delicious and fragrant tomatoes are available in summer. The nutritional value and the content of bioactive ingredients depend on the variety and the degree of maturity of the fruit. Tomatoes have few calories, but are rich in fiber, which is often lacking in the diet of many people. They are also an excellent source of vitamin C, folic acid, potassium and antioxidants such as lycopene, beta-carotene and flavonoids. It is worth noting that the highest content of lycopene is found in tomato products such as juices, so on hot days it is recommended to drink a glass of tomato juice or prepare a refreshing chłodnik, such as gazpacho.

6. It's a cucumber

It's made up of more than 95% water. Interestingly, it was once thought to be a great fever healer, perhaps because of its irrigating and refreshing properties. The cucumber is low in calories and also a good source of potassium. It also contains antioxidants flavonoids and cucumbers.

7. Rare trees and shrubs, small plants with a wide range of flavors

It is a small plant that enhances the flavor of many dishes. It is composed of 96% water, making it another excellent snack for hot days. Like many other vegetables and fruits, it is a source of antioxidants (mainly anthocyanins). It contains a large amount of vitamin C and mineral ingredients. It also has a high fiber content. It is worth mentioning that, in addition to the root, the leaves and shoots of this plant are also edible. Radieschen is best suited for salads or as an accompaniment to cottage cheese or egg paste.

8. Summary

The primary constituent of proper hydration is drinking an adequate quantity of water, yet particularly on scorching days, it is beneficial to expand the diet plan with products that contain a substantial amount of water, such as vegetables and fruits. In effect, every product within this class will serve as a noteworthy source of water. A favorable possibility is also integrating into one's diet plan cocktails or smoothies, salads, as well as refrigerants and other soups. Besides water, these meals will supply crucial vitamins, mineral components, and antioxidants, which will positively contribute to health and well-being.
