Yeasts composition, vitamins, properties, side effects

The more we learn about them, the less we are surprised by their wide range of uses. They are used in food production and in supplements, and they are also part of the study of many diseases. Baking yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is a microorganism that has been used to prevent and treat diseases since ancient times.

1. Saccharomyces cerevisiae General information

In addition to carbon dioxide, other compounds that give the desired aroma and flavor are also produced. They are used in food technology. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a yeast that comes under many names, such as baking yeast, beer yeast or noble yeast. It is used for baking cakes, and as a side effect of fermentation, it produces, among other things, carbon dioxide which gives the cake a porous structure.

2. Yeast is a valuable source of vitamins and minerals

It is characterized by a high content of biotin, or vitamin H (B7). This vitamin is responsible for the efficient functioning of some enzymes in our bodies. It is very rarely deficient. Pantotenoic acid is also involved in the formation of fatty acids. There are no adverse effects of its overdosage. It should be noted that it has a high zinc content. Each functional condition involves more than 100 enzymes, including those responsible for each DNA synthesis. Zinc is present in almost all tissues. People who suffer from acetic acid deficiency during puberty are also particularly susceptible to the effects of acidic acid.

In addition, it is important to ensure that the nutritional content of the product is consistent with the requirements set out in the Annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013.

4. Yeast plays a role in cosmetics

So far, according to the recipes of our grandmothers, the use of a yeast-based mask is recommended to alleviate these changes. The University of Medicine in Łódź has verified the effectiveness of the yeast based preparation in alleviating these types of changes. It is worth noting that all preparations for this type of skin problem are most effective in the case of fresh changes.

Apply the dough to the face for about 20 minutes. The yeast should be dissolved in milk and mixed with honey.

7. Yeast is a source of beta glucans

Beta-glucans are soluble fiber carbohydrates. They stimulate cells to erase free radicals. They also increase neutrophil activity against Staphylococcus aureus and the fungus Candida albicans. Beta glucans can also be obtained from fermentation yeasts, such as those obtained after brewing beer. Baking yeasts and beer yeasts are also a source of bioactive ingredients used as a functional food beta-glucanes. In appropriate amounts, they have a beneficial effect on the immune system.

8. It's a yeast drink

It is very important to reduce the fermentation activity of yeast through high temperatures. Otherwise, we are at risk of unpleasant ailments such as swelling and abdominal pain. It is especially recommended for people suffering from adolescent acne. It should not be started by people with unhealthy bowel inflammation (Crohn's disease, inflammatory bowel disease). The yeast drink is very easy to make. It must not be mixed with low-temperature liquid.
